The SF Giants completed a memorable comeback victory in Game 1 out of 162 on Thursday. Not only did the Giants get the win, they also gave president of baseball operations Buster Posey a nice birthday present.
After the game, manager Bob Melvin extended a classy gesture to Posey by giving him the lineup card from the game per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle on social media.

Of all the presents Melvin could have gotten for Posey on his 38th birthday, a lineup card from the team's first victory with the franchise legend in his new front office role has to be at the very top of the list.
It is obviously just one game and there is a long season ahead, but there has clearly been a shift from the front office down ever since Posey took over in his front office role. We saw it from the team in spring training with the added emphasis on fundamentals and playing sound baseball. It is clear that Posey has given the team an identity very similar to the one the team had when he was a player with pitching and defense being the team's strengths while not beating themselves and doing just enough on offense to get the job done.
The Giants did that in spring training which is a big part of why they had the best spring record of any team. Cactus League games do not count, but the fundamentals ingrained and the confidence gained from a solid spring training certainly counts for something.
The MLB season is very long and any team is going to go through hot streaks and rough patches. However, with Posey at the helm things just seem more steady. There is something about him whether he is on the field or in the front office where he has a calmness and quiet confidence that rubs off on everyone around him. That can make a huge difference for a franchise.
We will see what the 2025 season has in store for the Giants, but it is hard not to get excited about the team's potential with Posey in charge. Melvin's classy gesture is fitting and one hopes that is just the first of many winning lineup cards the team will have this season.
