The SF Giants made it official on Tuesday: Willy Adames is a Giant. While the whole team must be thrilled to have a shortstop like him on the team, staff ace Logan Webb had a hilarious reaction to Adames donning the orange and black.
Giants fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief that Adames officially is on the Giants. The Giants officially announced the signing on their social media:
Logan Webb has priceless response to SF Giants signing Willy Adames
The Giants got the premier shortstop on the free agent market. Adames slashed .251/.331/.462 with 32 homers and 112 RBI with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2024. He also has a reputation for being a great defender even though advanced stats suggest his defense took a bit of a dip last season.
Perhaps no one on the Giants is more excited that Adames is in San Francisco than Webb. He had a hilarious response when Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle asked him about the signing:
If you cannot access or view the above post, Webb told Slusser: "Couldn’t be more excited to play with Willy. From the first time I played against him I knew that was a guy I’d love to share a field with some day. Plus it means I won’t be giving up any more homers to him.”
For reference, in his career against Webb Adames is 4-9 with two home runs. Even in a small sample size, that is certainly what we would call ownage.
Thankfully for Webb, he will not have to pitch against the power threat for the foreseeable future. Adames has put up very solid power numbers as a shortstop. He has 150 home runs over the course of his seven-year career which means he is averaging over 20 homers per seasons.
Webb will certainly enjoy watching him send the ball over the fence from the dugout rather than from the mound.
He will also love having Adames play behind him in the infield. Assuming last year was something of an outlier defensively for Adames as he had to adjust to new turf at Milwaukee's ballpark, Adames should be an above-average defensive shortstop. We know that Webb induces a lot of ground balls with his sinker, so having a sure glove behind him will be a huge plus.
Adames figures to help the Giants a lot going forward and no one is happier about it than Logan Webb.
