If you blinked you may have missed these players on the 2024 SF Giants
We hardly knew these Giants before they were gone.
MLB seasons are long. Teams go through a lot of players and the SF Giants were no exception. 58 different players made appearances in a Giants uniform in 2024 and chances are you may have forgotten at least a few of them.
On the quiz website Sporcle, there is a quiz where you can guess every single player that appeared in a game for the 2024 San Francisco Giants. It is not very easy, even for diehard fans. I wrote about the team for the entire season and still only got 51 out of 58 names. I will link the quiz here.
Inevitably, there are going to be some names you forget over the course of a long season. For those who want to take the quiz and do not want any spoilers, I would recommend taking it right now because the rest of this article is going to take a look at 3 players who appeared in just one game with the Giants in 2024. If you blinked, or just didn't watch that game they appeared in, chances are you missed them.
3 SF Giants you probably forgot about in 2024
1. Mike Baumann
Forever Giant Mike Baumann appeared in his lone game in a Giants uniform back July 26th against the Colorado Rockies. He gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits and only recorded 2 outs in the inning. It was odd that he was even on the roster and Dave Flemming even pointed out that Spencer Bivens probably should not have been demoted to make room for Baumann especially since Baumann contributed so little. Baumann was just getting started as he joined the Miami Marlins later in the season after being let go by the Giants and was the pitcher who gave up Shohei Ohtani's 50th home run of the season which made history as he became the first player with 50 home runs and 50 steals in the same season. I look forward to his plaque on the Walk of Fame someday.
2. Trevor McDonald
If you did not watch the last game of the season you may not know that rookie Trevor McDonald made his big league debut and pitched 3 scoreless innings. Who knew? He worked his way through the minor leagues this season and earned a big league promotion at the end of the year. Maybe the 23 year old is a dark horse candidate for the bullpen next season.
3. Raymond Burgos
Some Giants fans will ask where you were when Travis Ishikawa hit his home run in the 2014 NLCS to send the Giants to the World Series. Real fans ask where you were on June 24th, 2024 when Raymond Burgos made his big league debut. Burgos gave up 3 hits and allowed 1 earned run against the Chicago Cubs. It was a bit surprising that he was called up in the first place, but maybe we will see him again at some point in 2025.
Some of you may be laughing right now, wondering how I was ever so foolish to forget that these three players existed and pitched for the Giants in 2024. If so, I admit you are a better Giants fan than I. Let's all keep our eyes peeled next year so we can ace that Sporcle quiz in 2025.
