The SF Giants have not been heavily rumored to be in on superstar free agent right fielder Kyle Tucker. But let's get greedy. On Christmas morning, every little kid wakes up with a twinkle in their eye and a hope that they will receive that one present. That was the one thing that they asked Santa for. They might not have even asked their parents, because they know there's only one jolly man in a red suit who can deliver what they truly want.
That's kind of how Giants fans might feel about this offseason. The fanbase is not going to come out publicly and ask the team to sign a guy like Kyle Tucker, who will likely be the most expensive free agent of the winter. Nobody is clamoring online for Tucker because San Francisco fans understand it's not a realistic expectation.
SF Giants fans can only hope Santa will deliver Kyle Tucker
That doesn't mean we can't dream. Yes, the Giants already made their big splash when they traded for Rafael Devers and signed Willy Adames last season. Yes, the Giants have bigger needs in the rotation, and their biggest need in the field is not right field, but second base.
And yet, there is probably no second baseman who could have the impact that Tucker would have on the lineup (unless Bo Bichette wants to come to San Francisco and play second base, but that's a whole different conversation).
Kyle Tucker would make a massive impact in San Francisco. He would complete one of the best "Big 3's" in the league, along with Devers and Adames in the lineup, and take pressure off the rest of the Giants' offense. He would give San Francisco a true MVP contender every year and would solidify the outfield. At the moment, the Giants look like they'll be starting Drew Gilbert, Heliot Ramos, and Jung Hoo Lee. Tucker would likely allow Gilbert to move into a more developmental bench role, and could also allow Ramos to spend time at DH, as he's not the best defender in the outfield.
Eventually, Gilbert could still take a starting job if Ramos or Lee reaches free agency or is traded, but signing Tucker means the Giants no longer have to give a starting job to a rookie who struggled in his limited MLB time last year.
Yes, it's a financial gamble, but it's exactly the type of move the Giants would benefit from. If Santa Claus has a little Christmas magic left for the Giants, please, bring Kyle Tucker to the Bay!
