The SF Giants are not in the MLB playoffs, but there are several players in the playoffs who the Giants may target in free agency. Let's take a look and see how these players are faring in the playoffs and whether the Giants may try to sign them.

How 3 potential SF Giants free agent targets are doing in the playoffs

Let's start with a player who has been eliminated from the postseason.

1. SS Willy Adames

The Giants may try to target a shortstop this offseason and they have already been connected to the Milwaukee Brewers' shortstop Willy Adames. The 29 year old Adames hit .251/.331/.462 with 32 home runs and 112 RBI in the 2024 regular season.

Adames did not do much in the 3-game Wild Card series against the New York Mets. He recorded just 2 hits in 11 at-bats. It was a disappointing performance that certainly may have played a role in why the Brewers lost the series.

Despite this, the Giants still seem very likely to go after Adames in free agency.

2. 1B Pete Alonso

Meanwhile, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso has been on a tear in the postseason. He has a batting average of .273 in the 2024 postseason and already has 3 home runs including a huge go-ahead home run in Game 3 of the Wild Card series against the Brewers and has helped lead New York to the NLCS.

We will see what the Giants decide to do at first base, but Alonso could be an option if they decide to move on from veterans LaMonte Wade Jr. and Wilmer Flores and feel top prospect Bryce Eldridge needs more time in the minors.

However, if Alonso leads the Mets to a World Series it is very hard to see him leaving the Mets.

3. OF Juan Soto

New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto will be the biggest offseason target for several teams in free agency. He will command a huge contract and frankly it seems highly unlikely that the Giants will be able to land him even if they try.

Soto started off hot in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Kansas City Royals with 3 hits in 5 at-bats. He cooled off in games 2 and 3. He did get one hit and drive in a key RBI in Game 4 which helped lead the Yankees over the Royals as they advanced to the ALCS.

We will see if he steps it up and makes it look like he will deserve the exorbitant contract he seems likely to get the rest of the postseason.

The Giants seem most likely to go after Adames of these three stars, but we all know that it is hard for them to reel in big free agents so perhaps we should not get our hopes up too much about any of these guys.
