The SF Giants had another poor offensive performance on Tuesday night as they mustered just one run while going down quietly to the Detroit Tigers 3-1. Giants manager Bob Melvin got tossed and a hot mic picked up his NSFW tirade.

Melvin went toe to toe with home plate umpire Tony Randazzo arguing balls and strikes in the bottom of the fifth. The zone was a big one all night and earlier in the game Giants catcher Patrick Bailey was rung up on a pitch that was well outside.

Bailey went out the next inning and appeared to try and smooth things over with Randazzo after he nearly spiked his helmet in frustration over the call. With how badly Bailey has been struggling at the plate, it hurts even more when he has what should have been a walk taken away from him due to a bad call.

A better lip reader could probably decipher exactly what Bailey said, but the general vibe of the conversation seemed to be: "That pitch was outside, but I wasn't trying to show you up so I'm sorry if it came off that way."

Bailey is the best pitch framer in the game and that has everything to do with his technique behind the plate. Yet, it certainly does not hurt to know how to butter up an ump and let them know you aren't trying to show them up or make them look bad. Umpires are humans, after all. Except Gabe Morales. He may be some sort of lizard creature or a skin-walker. Joking.

Anyway, Melvin did not show as much tact with Randazzo. Clearly miffed at his team's lack of production on offense as well as the bad calls behind the plate, Melvin let loose on Randazzo in a profanity-laden tirade that can be viewed here.

Around the Foghorn is a family website so I will not reprint what Melvin said, but needless to say he was ticked. The former catcher was clearly genuinely upset with the bad calls, but he was also trying to light a fire under his team to try and inspire some sort of offensive production.

It is not a bad idea with how feast or famine the team's offense has been this season, but unfortunately the Giants were only able to muster one run for their manager after he got thrown out.

It was worth a try from Melvin, but at least he got to blow off some steam. Now he has to try and figure out how to get the most out of an offense that has been struggling in a bad way as of late.
