The Super Bowl is over, which is the unofficial sign that baseball season is right around the corner. For the SF Giants, spring training is getting underway this week. What are some of the key dates this spring?
Highlighting the important spring training dates for the 2026 SF Giants
February 11 - Pitchers and catchers report
MLB.Com shared when pitchers and catchers report, as well as the first full squad workout for each team. They have February 10 listed for the Giants, but the Giants' calendar shows February 11 for when pitchers and catchers report.
This is usually the first step every spring. It sounds very official, but it is just the process of pitchers and catchers checking in with the team. In many instances, pitchers and catchers have already been working out with the team in Scottsdale, Arizona.
February 15 - First full squad workout
The next step is the first full squad workout. Position players are allowed to arrive a couple of days later than pitchers and catchers. Similar to my note above, many position players have already been working out with the coaching staff at Scottsdale Stadium. In fact, many own houses in Arizona for this purpose.
February 21 - First Cactus League game
The first game of the season always feels like a relief. It is a sign that the long winter that was far too cold, wet, and dark is coming to a close.
The Giants face off against the Seattle Mariners at the Peoria Sports Complex at 12:10 PM. There is nothing better than turning on the Giants' radio broadcast to listen to the game. Players will likely be limited to just a couple of at-bats or innings during the first few weeks of spring training.
One of the great qualities about spring training in Arizona is the proximity. If you stay in Scottsdale, you are a pretty short drive away from nearly every spring training stadium. It is one of the many qualities that makes spring training a great experience.
March 19 - Spring breakout game
This is a relatively new event. The Giants will face off against the Cincinnati Reds' spring breakout squad at 1:05 PM. They will be on the road for this game. It is a great chance to highlight some of the top prospects coming through the farm system.
That roster has not been announced yet. Gavin Kilen, Dakota Jordan, and Jhonny Level might be some of the names that are featured in this game.
March 21 - Final Cactus League game
By the time the final game comes around, folks are ready for the regular season. The final Cactus League game will take place against the Cleveland Guardians at Scottsdale Stadium.
The Giants will then head back to San Francisco for a handful of exhibition games. The first exhibition game is against the Sacramento River Cats on March 22. They will host Sultanes de Monterey at Oracle Park for a pair of games before the New York Yankees come to town to open the season. Just like we all predicted a couple of years ago, Aaron Judge will take the field at Oracle Park on Opening Day.
