Dale Stanavich did not remain a free agent for long after he was released by the Miami Marlins at the end of spring training. The left-handed pitcher has joined the SF Giants on a minor league deal, per the team’s transaction log.

Stanavich has been assigned to the Arizona Complex League (ACL) Giants to start the year. The ACL season is set to kick off this weekend.

That roster will have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. Middle infielder prospects Josuar Gonzalez and Luis Hernández will headline that club. Gonzalez has quickly established himself as one of the better prospects in baseball, and Hernández is not far behind.

Hernández joined the Giants during this year’s international signing cycle. He signed out of Venezuela for just under $5 million, marking one of the franchise’s largest investments through this channel.

On the pitching side, Carlos De La Rosa and Alberto have graduated to the ACL after spending last summer in the Dominican Summer League (DSL).

De La Rosa came over to the Giants in a five-player deal that sent Camilo Doval to the New York Yankees. He had a 4.73 ERA with 51 strikeouts and 10 walks in 32.1 frames last summer, whereas Laroche had a 2.11 ERA with 34 strikeouts and six walks in 38.1 innings.

Dale Stanavich was originally an eighth-round pick by the Marlins out of Rutgers University. Across four minor league seasons, he has pitched to a 3.74 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 12.0 K/9, and a 2.13 SO/W rate while reaching as high as Triple-A.

Interestingly, the 26-year-old pitching prospect received an invite from the Marlins to spring training. He did not make the club and was subsequently released. Stanavich did not remain a free agent for long.

On the mound, Stanavich throws from a three-quarters arm slot. He flashes a pair of mid 90’s fastballs. The four-seamer gets late, riding action up in the zone and can be an effective option against right-handed hitters if he commands it. Stanavich also throws an upper 80’s cutter and a low 80’s slider.
