Former SF Giants slugger Justin Maxwell may not hit dingers anymore, but these days you can find him…pulling teeth? That’s right, the Forever Giant is now a dentist in Maryland.

A user on Reddit recently posted that their roommate went to the dentist in the Baltimore area and their dentist was none other than Maxwell who was a Giant during the 2015 season.

A simple Google search reveals that yes, indeed, Maxwell is a dentist in the Baltimore area at Major League Smiles. That’s some smart marketing right there. Following his playing career, he went to dental school and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland in 2022.

Maxwell was born in Maryland so it makes sense that he would return to the land of his youth to start his new career. The 41-year-old played for four different teams in his MLB career and had 41 career home runs.

The Giants signed the outfielder prior to the 2015 season probably not expecting much, but he tore it up in spring training which earned him a spot on the roster. The team needed him especially since Hunter Pence got hit by a pitch and broke his wrist in spring training. He started off fairly hot at the plate, but unfortunately, Maxwell was not able to sustain that success throughout the entire season and was designated for assignment in September after slashing .209/.275/.341 with 7 home runs and 26 RBI in 100 games.

Maxwell had raw power to be sure. He blasted an impressive two run homer against the Los Angeles Dodgers while he was a Giant and also made a great sliding catch in right field as well. Just two days later he got a walk-off hit against the Dodgers in the 10th inning.

The Giants were the last MLB team he played for and his last appearance in professional baseball came in 2016 in the KBO.

It is great to see Maxwell has transitioned to this new career. If any readers are in the Baltimore area and haven’t had their teeth checked in a while, it may not be the worst idea to pay Dr. Maxwell a visit. Maybe if you’re lucky he can make your teeth look as shiny and clean as his.

This is the slow part of the offseason where stories like these are all we have to tide us over for the next month or so as we await the return of baseball. Who knows, maybe there will be a surprise breakout star for the Giants this year in spring training like Maxwell was ten years ago.
