Ex-SF Giants outfielder given up for almost nothing is now getting compared to Babe Ruth with White Sox

It’s been a rough year for the SF Giants, and something that has made it even harder is seeing guys all around MLB who used to be with the Giants having successful season. Whether it’s been Kyle Harrison with the Milwaukee Brewers or Otto Lopez with the Miami Marlins, a lot of former Giants are having great years.

Perhaps the most surprising of all has been Tristan Peters of the Chicago White Sox. The outfielder made the American League All-Star team and now he’s making history that MLB hasn’t seen for over a hundred years.

A recent White Sox graphic shows that Peters recently became the second player in MLB history to do the following things over a five game span: record 10 hits or more, have at least one home run in every game, multiple doubles and walks, and a stolen base. The only other player to do that? Babe Ruth back in 1921.

It’s a little bit of a cherry-picked stat but it’s still pretty remarkable. Any time you’re mentioned in the same breath as Ruth it likely means you’ve done something pretty special.

The 26-year-old is hitting .282/.345/.472 with 12 home runs and 52 runs batted in. Not only that, but he grades out as one of the best defensive center fielders in MLB.

Giants both got and gave up Tristan Peters for nothing

Keep in mind the Giants gave Peters up for Brett Wisely. While Wisely was a respectable utility bat for San Francisco and had a remarkable walk-off home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants would obviously go back in time and stop that trade if they could.

In some alternate universe maybe Peters is San Francisco’s center fielder and Harrison Bader never crashed his scooter into a fire truck and the world is completely unrecognizable. The butterfly effect is real.

The fact that the Giants even got Peters in the first place is wild. They got him from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Trevor Rosenthal, a guy who never even threw a pitch for San Francisco.

Peters didn’t exactly tear it up in the minors with the Giants which is why they were comfortable dealing him for Wisely who is currently in Triple-A with the Atlanta Braves.

It’s just that kind of year for the Giants. Not only is the team bad but guys they got rid of are doing insane things just to make us all feel even worse. At least the Giants have some promising young options in center field going forward, but it sure would be nice to have Peters on the roster right about now.
