Could fixing SF Giants bullpen be as simple as bringing back a pair of twins?

The SF Giants need to rebuild their bullpen this offseason. There are a number of avenues they could go down to do this, but could it be as simple as bringing back the Rogers twins in free agency?

President of baseball operations Buster Posey traded both of the Rogers twins in his first year on the job. He traded Taylor Rogers to the Cincinnati Reds back in January and then traded Tyler Rogers to the New York Mets at the trade deadline.

The twins were teammates on the Giants in 2023 and 2024. The hope was they could form a solid one-two punch in the late innings but that is not exactly how things materialized.

Tyler was the team's reliable eighth-inning man for years as that was his primary inning when the game was close late. Taylor had been a closer and set-up man earlier in his career, but with the Giants he was used more as a middle reliever.

Taylor's stats were not awful with the Giants. In 2023 he had a 3.83 ERA in 60 games which was not bad after his rough start in a Giants uniform. He followed that up in 2024 with a 2.40 ERA in 64 games although it seemed manager Bob Melvin was reluctant to use him in high-leverage situations.

That fact is probably what led the Giants to trade Rogers since the team must have felt they were over-paying for a reliever who was being used in the sixth inning more than the eighth or ninth.

The left-handed Rogers spent time with the Reds and the Chicago Cubs in 2025 with a quick pit stop in Pittsburgh in between. On the season he had a 3.38 ERA in 50 and 2/3 innings pitched.

Tyler was rock-solid as ever with the Giants in 2025 and continued to be his usual self after getting dealt to New York. On the season he had a 1.98 ERA in 81 appearances which was the most in his career.

Posey was the one to break up the twins, but he now has a chance to bring them back together. Adding the twins would give the Giants two solid relievers at the back end of the bullpen. With how bad the bullpen was coming down the stretch, and with the knowledge that the team will almost certainly be without Randy Rodríguez for all of 2026, the Giants need some safe bets to provide stability in the late innings.

The team could do a lot worse than bringing back the Rogers twins as their numbers have been consistent over the last few seasons and they would help bolster a bullpen that is in desperate need of help. They are both free agents so the opportunity is there if the Giants want to take it.
