Constructing a dream lineup for the 2025 SF Giants because why not

Why not daydream a little bit about a fantasy Giants lineup.

As the MLB offseason is set to begin, SF Giants fans probably have low expectations. Each of the last few offseasons has been characterized by disappointment so it is easy to understand why. Let's dream up a fantasy lineup just for the heck of it.

Giants fans are worn down and I am too. The Dodgers winning the World Series while the Giants languish in mediocrity is certainly not great for fan morale. This dream lineup comes from a world in which the Giants do not care anymore and are willing to set money on fire if it means competing with the Dodgers. This lineup is a fantasy and nothing more, but hey, maybe the Giants can get one of these dream targets in free agency.

With that, let's take a look at the dream lineup.

Constructing a dream lineup for the 2025 SF Giants because why not

1. CF Jung Hoo Lee

Even in the dream the Giants would still have some existing players on the team. In this dream Jung Hoo Lee is able to channel his hero Ichiro Suzuki and become a premier leadoff hitter, with a batting average over .300 and 50 steals.

2. 2B Gleyber Torres

The Giants got very little production at second base in 2024. It would be a dream if they could get Gleyber Torres who can hit for a lot of power and play second base. He hit 25 home runs in 2023 and the Giants could certainly use another 20-homer hitter.

3. RF Juan Soto

Ah yes, the crown jewel. The big fish. Juan Soto will not be a Giant but in the dream boy does he look good in orange and black. Just imagine the walk off splash hits he would hit against the Dodgers to send everyone home happy. Just imagine...

4. 1B Pete Alonso

One of the premier power threats in the game, Pete Alonso would turn first base from a weakness into a strength for the Giants. They would also have a participant in the Home Run Derby for the first time in forever.

5. SS Willy Adames

The Giants need a shortstop and Willy Adames would be a great addition. He can hit as evidenced by his 32 home runs in 2024 and he can field even though 2024 was a bit of a. down year for him defensively. He is probably the most realistic target in this dream lineup.

6. DH Marcell Ozuna

The dream does not just have to include free agent signings. In Fantasy Land Buster Posey swings a big trade with the Atlanta Braves for Marcell Ozuna to give the Giants a big bat in the DH slot. It is possible Ozuna gets moved this offseason so it is not impossible.

7. 3B Matt Chapman

You know it is a dream and that is is probably time to wake up when your lineup is so deep you have Matt Chapman batting 7th. He is much more likely to be batting 4th or 5th next season but imagine opposing pitchers reaching the bottom of the order and still having to face Chapman.

8. LF Heliot Ramos

Oh yeah and while we are at it why not have 2024 rookie breakout player Heliot Ramos batting 8th? Ramos will obviously be a middle of the order guy for the Giants next season but hey, maybe he will be batting 8th on the 2025 All-Star team.

9. C Patrick Bailey

Even in dream land you still have Patrick Bailey in your lineup because of what he does on defense. Sure, he is only going to hit .230 but he makes up for it with his glove.

Okay, wake up now. The dream is over. We know the Giants are not going to get all of those players. But realistically they could get Adames or Torres since they need to improve up the middle. First base is another area for improvement so even if they cannot get Alonso look for maybe a short-term upgrade like Paul Goldschmidt.

It is fun to dream, but now the Giants must get down to the hard-nosed reality of roster construction to improve the team.
