Buster Posey looks genius as SF Giants continue to dominate Rafael Devers trade

Only one player from the Devers trade remains on the Red Sox, and Buster Posey looks brilliant.

Former SF Giants top prospect Kyle Harrison was traded from the Boston Red Sox to the Milwaukee Brewers this morning for third baseman Caleb Durbin in a 6-player trade.

Harrison was the centerpiece of the Rafael Devers trade last June, along with Jordan Hicks, James Tibbs III and Jose Bello. Bello is now the only player who remains a part of the Boston organization.

The trade between the Red Sox and Brewers included LHP Kyle Harrison, pitching prospect Shane Drohan and infielder David Hamilton to be sent to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Red Sox received 2025 National League Rookie of the Year candidate Caleb Durbin, infielder Anthony Siegler, infielder Andruw Monestario and a competitive balance draft pick.

SF Giants have dominated Rafael Devers trade with Red Sox

The aftershocks of the Devers trade continue to make Buster Posey look incredibly good, but most people could have spotted this as a "no-brainer" when it happened.

Devers posted a 4.1 WAR in 2025 while Harrison threw only 12 innings for Boston in 2025 with a 0.3 WAR. Essentially at this point of the trade's aftermath the Giants were able to get Devers for a bag of Lay's potato chips.

As for the rest of the package, Hicks is now on the Chicago white Sox, and Tibbs is a part of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and is posted decent numbers in the minor leagues last season. It's more than safe to say that Posey made not only the right move, but one that addressed a key need for the Giants and fleeced the Red Sox in the process.

Of course, maybe the Red Sox will get good production from the players they got in the Harrison trade and will ultimately look back on the deal fondly, but Boston really seems to be scrambling to address the hole left by Devers.

They made a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals for Willson Contreras to address their deficiency at first base and then Alex Bregman departed in free agency and signed with the Chicago Cubs. Keep in mind that the Red Sox signing Bregman last offseason is part of what led to Devers' frustration with his situation there that ultimately led to his exit.

Needless to say the SF Giants have definitively won the Devers trade up to this point. So far the Devers trade is the defining move of Posey's tenure as president of baseball operations and we will see if that move ends up bringing great success to the team.
