The SF Giants are contemplating whether they should buy or sell ahead of the trade deadline. Due to Bryce Eldridge’s recent hot streak in Triple-A, the Giants may decide to stand pat and not add a big bat.
Eldridge has been showcasing his power as of late. The top prospect in the organization is known for his powerful bat and he has been delivering on it as of late as our own Jeff Young noted on social media.
Bryce Eldridge (Sacramento) is in the midst of a power surge, hitting 4 home runs with 11 RBI in 26 PA in his last 6 games. He is slashing .261/.346/.826 (175 wRC+) with still a high strikeout rate (30.7%) in that time, but the Giants have got to like how the power is playing.

SF Giants may decide against buying due to Eldridge's hot streak
The tall first baseman’s has hit four home runs and driven in 11 runs over the past week. That’s a small stretch but if he can keep it going at the plate he is going to make the Giants at least think about calling him up to help out on offense.
He was called up from Double-A Richmond earlier in the year, but his numbers on the year in Triple-A Sacramento are not great. He is slashing .226/.288/.495 with seven home runs and 26 runs batted in. He also has 33 strikeouts in 93 at-bats which is not ideal.
It is probably going to take some continued dominance for the Giants to call him up soon, but the Giants could justify not adding another bat before the trade deadline by saying they believe Eldridge could make an impact in the last few months of the season.
The Giants were recently connected to a couple of power-hitting right-handed hitters who could be dealt ahead of the trade deadline. They could still look to add while also believing that Eldridge could help a little bit, but they may also be losing hope with how the Giants have looked as of late.
The team has looked sluggish and lethargic in the second half coming out of the All-Star break. There is a lack of energy from a lot of the team and it just seems like there is not the same fire or fight that there was early in the season.
Maybe instead of a trade, calling up Eldridge could be its own attempt at a sort of momentum boost for the clubhouse. Calling up a top prospect with potential like Eldridge is sure to get everyone juiced up and energized and could inspire some better play.
As of right now, the Giants are not playing well enough to justify being big buyers at the trade deadline. The hot bat of Eldridge could give president of baseball operations Buster Posey and the front office even more reason to just sit on their hands.
