The SF Giants are bad. They have lost six straight games and their record is now 13-21 on the season. This season is starting to have major 2017 vibes when they had a record of 64-98. There is a chance that top prospect Bryce Eldridge could be getting called up as he was not in the lineup for the Sacramento River Cats on Sunday.

That does not necessarily mean he's getting called up, but it could mean he is going to be on a plane headed to San Francisco so he can be with the team for Monday night's game at Oracle Park against the San Diego Padres. San Francisco Chronicle reporter Susan Slusser thought Eldridge's absence from the lineup was notable.

UPDATE: Susan Slusser reports that both Eldridge and Jesus Rodriguez are going to be called up tomorrow.

Giants may as well call up Eldridge just to shake things up

I've been someone who has wanted the Giants to be patient with Eldridge. Yes he's been hot in Triple-A but his strikeout rate has been pretty high and with Casey Schmitt hitting so well for the Giants at the designated hitter spot and Rafael Devers at first base there seemingly isn't space for him in the lineup.

But at this point, the Giants may as well call up the 21-year-old. This season is going the wrong way fast. Eldridge probably isn't going to be any sort of savior but if he can at least provide some sort of jolt of energy to a lineup that desperately needs it then it is worth it.

Through 30 games in Triple-A, Eldridge is hitting .333/.445/.518 with five home runs and 22 runs batted in. He's been especially hot as of late and recently had a four-hit game. He's doing everything he needs to do so the Giants may as well reward him.

Designating Jerar Encarnacion for assignment seems like a pretty obvious corresponding roster move to make room for Eldridge. Encarnacion hasn't provided any sort of value to the team and between making embarrassing blunders and egregious ABS challenges it's time for the Giants to move on from him.

Notably, Giants catcher and utility man Jesus Rodriguez was also held out of Sacramento's lineup on Sunday. He is hitting .330/.400/.440 with two homers and 14 RBI. He can play catcher, second base, and left field so he can be moved around a bit. Backup catcher Eric Haase seems like a clear roster casualty to make room since he hasn't done much.

It's time to shake things up in a major way. With the Giants indeed calling Eldridge and Rodriguez up hopefully they can give the team some sort of spark because they desperately need one.
