MLB outfielder Mark Canha was not with the SF Giants for very long, but he did indeed play 32 games with the team back in 2024. The San Jose native had a very respectable big league career but now it seems he may be transitioning into a new career as a Food Network star.

Canha appeared on the Food Network show “100 Cooks” which is a bake-off show. He didn’t fare too well as he got eliminated after the first round, but hey we all got to start somewhere, right?

Canha’s love of food is not a secret to anyone. He runs an Instagram account that is basically all about food and anyone who has seen the commercials in between innings on MLB.TV in recent years knows that he is a self-described “foodie.”

The food influencer space seems like a fun post-baseball career to be involved in so it’s nice to see that Canha is already lining up his next career.

He is not officially retired yet as he’s said he would listen if a team came calling, but he had a rough year with the Kansas City Royals last year as he hit .212/.272/.265 with one homer and six runs batted in across 46 games.

The Texas Rangers gave him an invite to spring training earlier this year but he did not do enough to warrant a spot on the big league roster. He could probably get a minor league contract from a team if he really wanted to keep playing but if he’s got his food career lined up then there’s no need to keep grinding in the minors.

Canha had a short but solid stint with the Giants

In Canha’s brief stint with San Francisco he hit .288/.376/.329. The Giants acquired him in a deadline deal with the Detroit Tigers in exchange for Eric Silva who has struggled in the minors with Detroit. There was some thought they could bring him back in 2025 but he would have been an imperfect fit on the roster.

Manager Bob Melvin was instrumental in bringing Canha to the Giants given their familiarity from their time with the A’s. They’re both Bay Area guys and Canha had some really solid seasons in Oakland so it was a deal that made a lot of sense.

He’s not a Forever Giant, maybe just in the sarcastic sense, but he did pretty well in his short time with the team so one hopes he goes on to have great success in the fold influencer space going forward. And if he hasn’t pitched a show to Food Network titled “Canha Corn” in which he teaches people how to make ballpark food at home then he needs a better agent. I'm a freelancer, Mark. Feel free to hit me up.
