Beloved former SF Giants infielder may have helped sway Adames to San Francisco

It never hurts to have a former SF Giants player talk positively about the city of San Francisco.

New SF Giants shortstop Willy Adames had his introductory press conference on Thursday. He spoke about many factors that drew him to San Francisco, including former Giant Matt Duffy who talked up the city to Adames.

Adames referenced many factors in his decision, including the fact that he felt president of baseball operations Buster Posey was creating a winning ball club in San Francisco. Certainly, the $182 million over the course of a seven-year contract did not hurt.

The entire Adames introductory press conference can be watched below:

At one point one of the reporters asked Adames about his friendship with Matt Duffy, who played for the Giants from 2014 to 2016 before he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2016. Adames and Duffy overlapped in Tampa Bay from 2018 to 2019.

Adames' face instantly lit up when asked about his former teammate as he said, "That's my guy." This can be found at roughly the 15:45 mark in the video. He talked about how Duffy always spoke fondly of San Francisco. Adames said he would have to call him up and ask him for any recommendations for places to check out in the city.

In case you do not believe Adames' enthusiasm for Duffy, just look at the picture below.

That is a beautiful bromance right there.

Duffy may not be the main reason Adames picked San Francisco in free agency, but it cannot hurt to have a close former teammate talk up the city of San Francisco.

The Duffy trade can still be a divisive subject amongst Giants fans over eight years after it took place. Duffy was a homegrown fan favorite who helped the Giants win the World Series in 2014 before having a breakout season in 2015.

He has never quite been able to rekindle that 2015 season due to injuries, but he has still stuck around in the big leagues and is currently with Bruce Bochy and the Texas Rangers.

Adames was very endearing and likable in his press conference. Yet, there is probably no better way to endear himself to Giants fans than name-checking someone like Matt Duffy. In San Francisco, any friend of Matt Duffy is a friend of ours.

Even if Duffy's time in San Francisco was relatively brief, it is cool that he is still having an influence on Giants baseball all these years later.
