Perhaps no city other than Toronto will be pulling harder for the Blue Jays on Friday night than San Francisco. That is why it is fitting that former beloved SF Giants pitcher Kevin Gausman has a chance to dash the dynasty hopes of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Toronto takes a 3-2 lead in the World Series into Friday night's game. They have to win one of two games at home to take home their first World Series title since 1993 and will need to take down the juggernaut Death Star Dodgers to do so.
Kevin Gausman can take down the Dodgers in Game 6 of the World Series
Game 6 will be a pitching rematch of Game 2 in Toronto between Gausman and Yoshinobu Yamamoto of the Dodgers who has been absolutely masterful in the postseason. The Blue Jays will have their work cut out for them, especially with Shohei Ohtani lurking for a potential Game 7, but they are in a good spot to take down the evil Empire.
Gausman has been solid in the postseason for Toronto. He has a 2.55 ERA in five games pitched across 24 and 2/3 innings. He pitched great for most of his start in Game 2 but gave up two untimely home runs which felled the Blue Jays in that contest.
If he can have a similar performance in Game 6 minus the homers, Toronto will have a good shot to win the game but that is a lot easier said than done especially when one considers LA's stout lineup that seemingly has danger at every turn.
Many Giants fans probably wish Gausman was still with San Francisco. He pitched great for the team in 2020 and 2021, but Farhan Zaidi and the front office chose not to bring him back in free agency and he took flight for the Blue Jays.
He has been a remarkably consistent and solid pitcher for the last four seasons and it is easy to envision the Giants making the playoffs at least once in the last four years if they still had Gausman alongside Logan Webb at the top of the rotation.
The entire World Series has sort of been a sad "what if" for Giants fans with several pitchers either being former Giants like Gausman and Blake Snell or pitchers that were sought by the Giants in free agency like Ohtani and Yamamoto.
We will see how Game 6 turns out, but Giants fans will certainly be pulling hard for a former member of the orange and black as he and the Blue Jays try to spoil LA's dynasty.
