Barry Bonds' bizarre defense of Giants behavior felt out-of-place on Netflix pregame

Nothing all that memorable happened in Wednesday night's game between the SF Giants and New York Yankees. San Francisco got smoked 7-0 and the main thing to talk about after the game were comments made by Giants legend Barry Bonds who was an analyst on Netflix's broadcast of the game.

Bonds got a lot of attention for comments he made about almost joining the Yankees when he was a free agent. Thankfully for the Giants he opted to come back home to San Francisco, but Bonds also somewhat puzzlingly claimed that he was a good teammate as a player which seems like a bit of a stretch.

Here is what he had to say about how he conducted himself as a player: "I may not have talked to anybody off the field. That was just me. Alright? But on that field, I was probably the best teammate you would ever have. I took more walks for my team. Got on base for my team. And that's what baseball is about."

Bonds does have a point. Say what you will about the guy as a person, but if you were drafting an All-Time MLB team based on talent alone then Bonds would have to be the starting left fielder. Of course, those walks he talked about were often intentional as most opposing pitchers were simply too afraid to pitch to him, but he did get on base a lot, that's for sure.

To bring this up on the pregame show did feel a bit bizarre and out of place, though. The context of the answer is that he was asked about Yankees star Aaron Judge who, somewhat similarly to Bonds, has all the personal accolades a player could want but has not won a World Series. Bonds was trying to explain how he approached the game but some could interpret it as defensive.

Who cares, though? The guy is the greatest hitter to ever play the game so he can say whatever he wants. Ask Jeff Kent if he thinks Bonds was a good teammate and you might get a different answer, but at least in Bonds' head he genuinely thought he was doing what was best for the team.

The game was a dud for the Giants and Netflix's coverage was overall not that great, but at least Giants fans got to hear from Bonds and Hunter Pence in the booth to make the night slightly more tolerable.
