Earlier this week, Luis Hernández was added to MLB Pipeline's top-100 prospect list after a pair of prospect graduations. For the second time this week, another SF Giants prospect in Jhonny Level was added to the list, coming in at No. 100.

The ranking, which changes frequently throughout the year, has Bryce Eldridge at No. 23, followed by Josuar Gonzalez at No. 42. Hernández and Level round out that group at No. 95 and No. 100, respectively.

When MLB Pipeline released its preseason ranking, it was a mild surprise to see only two Giants prospects make the cut. Other outlets such as Baseball America had four Giants make the list.

That said, Hernández was likely not considered for the preseason ranking because players who were just signed through the international channel are usually not eligible for those lists. There is a soft cutoff date around December. With the season now underway, that cutoff is no longer applicable.

Three of the four Giants prospects to appear on MLB Pipeline's list were added through the international channel. That highlights their success in that channel in recent years. There are a handful of pitchers, including Argenis Cayama, Keyner Martinez, and Luis De La Torre, who were also signed through this channel and could be in consideration for these lists with a strong season.

Jhonny Level signed for just under $1 million out of Venezuela during the 2024 international signing period. Yohendry Sanchez led the way for the Giants during that cycle, with a $1.4 million signing bonus.

Since then, Level has quickly emerged as one of the more intriguing prospects in the Giants farm system. In the Arizona Complex League last summer, he slashed .288/.375/.493 (121 wRC+) with nine home runs, 38 RBI, and 50 runs in 261 plate appearances. The power uptick was a bit of a surprise for the 5-foot-8 middle infielder, but it was one of the traits that made him stand out as arguably the best prospect in that league.

Level collected 147 more plate appearances for the San Jose Giants to finish out last season. He is returning to San Jose to start this year, and he tallied three hits in five at-bats during his 2026 debut.

While the Giants will continue to develop the 19-year-old prospect as a shortstop, there is an interesting conversation to be had about where his long-term fit might be. Given the depth of middle infielders in the Giants system, it may make sense to stretch him to the outfield down the road. He is a fast runner with a strong arm, which tends to translate well to the outfield. That is a conversation for a different day.
