It’s been an uneven start to the regular season for the SF Giants. The team sits at 5-8 and while the lineup and bench seem to be pretty set, it never hurts to take a look down at the minor leagues to see who is hot and may earn a promotion down the road or get called up if there is an injury.

With that, let’s take a look at five players who are making some noise right now for the Sacramento River Cats.

5 SF Giants players on fire in Triple-A right now

Victor Bericoto

This comes as no shock after seeing how outfielder and first baseman Victor Bericoto looked in spring training. The 24-year-old won the Barney Nugent Award, given to the best Giants performer in the Cactus League, thanks to a .419 batting average and 3 home runs along with 14 runs batted in down in Arizona.

He has picked up right where he left off in the minors. In nine games he has slashed .306/.381/.583 with two homers and eight runs batted in. Many would assume that if either Rafael Devers or Jerar Encarnacion had to go on the IL, Bryce Eldridge would be called up. Bericoto may actually be the better option right now.

Will Brennan

The Giants brought in Will Brennan for some added outfield depth ahead of spring training. He’s known primarily for his defense but he hit the ball well in Arizona and that’s translated to Sacramento as well.

He has a .317 batting average for the River Cats so far with one home run and seven driven in. Jared Oliva is the team’s fourth outfielder right now, but if he struggles or there is an injury to one of the starting outfielders then Brennan could be the next man up.

Drew Gilbert

Brennan is not the only left-handed, glove-first outfielder hitting well in Triple-A, though. Tony Vitello’s favorite spark plug Drew Gilbert is hitting .300 with a home run and three runs batted in.

The temptation to reunite him with Vitello will probably be too great to ignore so he should contribute to the big league team at some point in 2026.

Nate Furman

One player who really stood out in spring training was Nate Furman. He was acquired in the Alex Cobb trade a few years ago and has done nothing but hit since joining San Francisco’s organization.

So far he is slashing .346/.528/.462 with one homer and seven runs batted in. He is a nifty utility player who can be moved around the infield and while the Giants already have two guys like that in Casey Schmitt and Christian Koss, it never hurts to have depth in that department.

Buddy Kennedy

Another guy who showed promise in spring training was Buddy Kennedy. Through nine games with Sacramento he is slashing .351/.429/.459. Like Furman, there isn’t really a spot for him on the big league club with Matt Chapman, Willy Adames, Schmitt, and Koss ahead of him on the depth chart but a player never knows when their opportunity may come.

It’s unlikely that any of these guys will get called up soon even though San Francisco’s offense has been inconsistent through the first two weeks of the season. They are definitely still guys to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
