As Americans around the country are shopping for the top Black Friday deals this week, the SF Giants are shopping for deals of their own. Here are four things the Giants are shopping for this Black Friday.

4 key needs the SF Giants should be shopping for this Black Friday

1. A second baseman

The Giants have not had a long-term answer at second base for a few seasons, and it feels like this offseason would be the perfect time to find one. Will the Giants pay full price for Bo Bichette, or will they take a veteran discount for a guy like Jorge Polanco? And what about the Diamondbacks, who might be shopping Ketel Marte? Would the Giants be willing to pay the prospect price to their division rivals?

2. A second catcher

Patrick Bailey is great defensively, but the Giants could really use a catcher who can hit. The market this year is pretty thin, which means the best idea for San Francisco would probably be to sign a cheap free agent like Mitch Garver or Gary Sanchez. Both catchers have plenty of pop in their bats, and could be valuable as backup catchers in San Francisco.

3. A real right fielder

The Giants would really benefit from adding a real right fielder. They've brought in bench pieces like Joey Wiemer and Justin Dean, and they traded for Drew Gilbert last summer, but none of them inspire much confidence among the fanbase. There are plenty of outfielders available, from big names like Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger to veterans like Rob Refsnyder and Alex Verdugo. Would the Giants consider a reunion with longtime San Francisco fan favorite Mike Yastrzemski? He might be affordable if he's willing to come back to the Bay Area.

4. A closer

With Camilo Doval and Tyler Rogers both gone, the Giants are going to need a new closer in 2026. They have been connected to big names like Devin Williams, but it is always a risk to sign a closer to an expensive contract as we saw with Mark Melancon.

There are plenty of relievers available for the Giants to shop for, including all-stars like Edwin Díaz, Pete Fairbanks, and Robert Suarez. Or they could settle for a mid-level option like Sean Newcomb, Andrew Chafin, or Caleb Ferguson.

5. Starting pitching

We will save the most important one for last. the Giants absolutely need to add reliable starting pitching this offseason. whether via trade or through free agency, they absolutely need at least two reliable starters to fill out the rotation going into 2026 and add adequate depth so they are better prepared to manage the attrition of a long season than they were in 2025.

If the Giants can address these needs this offseason, then they should feel confident about the team heading into 2026.
