The SF Giants announced their non-roster invites to spring training on Wednesday. While there was one big surprise amongst the names listed, most of the names did not come as a huge shock.
While a lot of roster spots are already pretty safely set in stone entering camp, there are a few names on that list who could earn a spot on the Opening Day roster with a strong showing in the Cactus League.
3 SF Giants NRI who have a great chance to make the team
The bullpen is the most wide open spot on the roster entering spring training. Things are very unsettled there as the Giants made a lot of minor additions to the bullpen in the offseason, but it would not be a shock if some new names, and possibly some old, emerge in camp and prove to be a key part of the bullpen.
Gregory Santos
It's been a few years, but Gregory Santos has already pitched in a Giants uniform. He made his big league debut with the Giants back in 2021 and eventually went on to pitch for the Chicago White Sox and Seattle Mariners.
The Giants brought him back on a minor league deal in the offseason, and while his 5.14 ERA in eight appearances with Seattle last season does not inspire a ton of confidence, he had a solid 3.39 ERA in 60 appearances with the White Sox in 2023.
Santos is a flamethrower and he's still just 26 so it would not be a shock if he snagged a spot in the bullpen.
Juan Sánchez
In spring training two years ago, there was some thought that left-handed reliever Juan Sánchez could make the club. He had a solid showing in Scottsdale but ultimately the Giants did not carry him on the Opening Day roster.
Sánchez ended up being injured most of 2025 but if he picks up where he left off last spring, it would not be shocking if he made the club with things so wide open.
Michael Fulmer
Fulmer was the surprise name on the NRI list and the 32-year-old is a former Rookie of the Year and All-Star. Don't get too excited though because he earned those honors back in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
He has dealt with injuries and has not had a full big league season since 2023, but he is a veteran arm who could certainly insert himself into the bullpen conversation with a strong spring showing.
The bullpen is wide open, so do not be shocked if one of these pitchers ends up on the Opening Day roster.
