3 numbers that would have and could help salvage SF Giants' dismal 2026 season

It’s been a disappointing season for the SF Giants, but with just a few weeks left to go until it’s over there are a few numbers the Giants can reach that would make everyone feel a lot better about things going into next season.

Rafael Devers hitting 40 home runs

UPDATE: This article was written before it was announced that Devers would be placed on the 60-day IL so now he will obviously not be able to reach 40 homers on the year.

With how hot Devers was before landing on the IL, it genuinely didn’t seem out of the question that he could hit 45 homers. He has been the best hitter in baseball as of late and ended up with 37 home runs on the season. The two he hit in the current series against the San Diego Padres have been filthy. They came on breaking balls below the zone and he still knocked them out.

After Willy Adames became the first Giant to even reach 30 homers since Barry Bonds last season, it would have been a great sign if Devers became the first Giants since Bonds to reach 40 big ones on the season.

Some may think Devers could get dealt because of how hot he’s been, but those who know better understand that he will likely be a presence in the middle of the team’s order for quite a while going forward. It's a shame he won't get a chance to reach 40 homers due to injury, but 2026 still ended up being a great year for Devers.

Bryce Eldridge reaching 20 home runs

It’s been a great rookie season for Bryce Eldridge. He has proven to everyone that he belongs at the big league level and the fact that he’s done that before turning 22 is pretty dang remarkable.

He currently has 16 home runs on the season and there is still time for him to reach 20 on the year. Even if he doesn’t quite get there it’s been a very successful first season but reaching 20 and combining for 60 or more homers with Devers would be a great sign going forward.

Reach 70 wins on the season

This one may be the toughest of the bunch, especially after the news on Devers. As of this writing the Giants have 62 wins on the season and only have 13 games left to play. Winning eight out of 13 seems like a bit of a long shot for this team especially when they’re playing teams like the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers, but it’s not impossible.

The Giants just swept the Cardinals in San Francisco and there’s a chance the Dodgers may rest some of their guys ahead of the playoffs. Getting to 70 wins would at least show some fight from this scrappy bunch and would make their overall record on the year look a little better.

We will see if any of these numbers are reached, but if the Giants can at the very least play some good baseball these last two weeks of the season then that could give them a tiny bit of momentum and belief going into the offseason.
