The SF Giants announced that former Giant Randy Winn would be rejoining the organization as their Vice President of Player Development. Who are some other potential former Giants who could join him in the front office?
The hiring of Winn does not come as a huge shock. The Giants have always done a great job of keeping their alumni actively involved with the team and Winn has spent time both as a roving instructor and a special assistant in the front office during his post-playing career.
This is certainly not the last former Giants who will be hired by the team, so let's take a look at 3 ex-Giants who could find themselves with a front office job in the future under Buster Posey.
3 former SF Giants who could get front office jobs
1. J.T. Snow
Former Giants first baseman J.T. Snow was a fan favorite during his time in San Francisco. In his post-playing career he has stayed involved with the team, calling road games as an announcer from time to time and being around the team. He has also not been afraid to voice his opinion on the future of the franchise.
He got a job earlier this year serving as an assistant coach for the Oakland Ballers, an independent baseball team. This was after he reached out to Farhan Zaidi about a possible coaching job with the Giants but heard back from him late because of a wrong number snafu.
When Posey was hired as president of baseball operations, Snow wasted no time in publicly talking about how he wanted to return to the Giants in some capacity.
Giving him a job in the front office would be a good way to get him involved with the organization again. Perhaps a scouting role in some capacity would be fitting or he could serve as an instructor of some sort. I certainly wouldn't mind having him help teach top prospect Bryce Eldridge how to play first base.
No matter what, it would be great to have Snow back in the organization.
2. Rich Aurilia
Legendary Giants shortstop Rich Aurilia is another guy who would make sense in the front office. He played on the Giants from 1995 to 2003 and returned to the team from 2007 to 2009. He currently serves as an analyst for NBC Sports Bay Area where he would break down Giants games alongside none other than Randy Winn. He knows baseball and has a great eye and feel for the game so getting him involved in the scouting department would make sense.
3. Nick Hundley
Nick Hundley was a catcher for the Giants from 2017 to 2018. While those were not great years for the team, he did win a Willie Mac Award and provide some solid play for the team. He is also currently a special assistant to the general manager of the Texas Rangers Chris Young. His connection with Posey during his short stint with the team could come in handy and could help Posey try to lure him away from Texas with a promotion somewhere down the road.
Those are some potential ex-Giants who would make sense to join the front office. No matter what, it is cool that Winn is back with the organization and it would not be a surprise to see more familiar faces join him.
