With the SF Giants looking very much like they are going to be irrelevant this season, it’s worth taking a look around the league to see how some old friends are doing. Let’s take a look at three players from last year’s team who are thriving and have to be happy they got out before the dumpster fire.

3 Giants from 2025 team having a great start to 2026

Dominic Smith

Giants fans fell in love with Dominic Smith last season and now the Atlanta Braves are falling in love with him too. He’s currently hitting .324/.351/.521 with four home runs and 18 runs batted in for Atlanta and has already become something of a folk hero with his late-inning clutch hits.

Smith has to love being on a Braves team that is 26-12 as of this writing and has a sizable lead in the National League East. It really couldn’t happen to a better guy since Smith seems like a good dude and he’s gone through some personal hardships this year.

Smith was great with the Giants last year and really filled a key need on the team. There really wasn’t room to bring him back this season so it’s nice to see him getting an opportunity somewhere else and thriving.

Tyler Rogers

Death, taxes, and Tyler Rogers being a supremely solid reliever are the three constants in life. He did just have his worst outing of the year for the Toronto Blue Jays as he gave up two earned runs and blew the game, but his ERA has now shot all the way up to 1.62 on the season.

He’d only given up one earned run all season prior to his most recent outing so needless to say he’s been typical Tyler Rogers. The Giants’ bullpen has been pretty good this season relatively speaking, but it sure would be nice to have the most reliable setup man in the game.

Wilmer Flores

Ah, good old Wilmer Flores. Remember when the Giants were winning games in April and May last season thanks to a resurgence from Wilmer and we were able to convince ourselves that the Giants were a legit contender? How naive we were.

Poor Wilmer wasn’t even able to get a contract from any big league team so now he’s in the Mexican League with the Toros de Tijuana. He’s hitting .341/.404/.415 through 12 games. Maybe if he gets hot a big league team would be willing to sign him. That’s what the Giants did with Jerar Encarnacion back in 2024 and he, uh, well, there are probably better examples.

The 2026 Giants aren’t very good, but at least these three players who all assuredly qualify as Good Giants are having some nice success so far this year.
