The Giants Dominican Summer League (DSL) affiliates have been among the best in the league. They will have some healthy representation in the DSL All-Star game, as Josuar Gonzalez headlines the trio of SF Giants prospects to be selected, per a team announcement.
2025 top IFA signing to headline trio of SF Giants prospects selected to DSL All-Star game
The DSL Giants Orange currently have the third-best record in the league at 24-10. The DSL Giants Black sit right behind them in a four-way tie for fourth place with a 23-11. record. The DSL affiliates, Arizona Complex League club, and San Jose Giants have been some of the best teams in the organization.
Gonzalez will be joined by infielder Yulian Barreto and right-handed pitcher Alberto Laroche. Gonzalez, along with Barreto, earned some of the largest bonuses in this year's IFA cycle. Gonzalez's bonus was just under $3 million, whereas Barreto received a sizable $900,00 signing bonus.
Those three prospects will be joined by a pair of coaches in Juan Ciriaco and Ian Macdonald. Ciriaco is the manager of the DSL Giants Black, whereas Macdonald is the manager of the DSL Giants Orange.
In particular, Ciriaco has been serving as a manager in the Giants' system for several seasons. Before that, he appeared in parts of 15 minor league years, 10 of which took place with the Giants. He hung up his cleats for good in 2017, but never veered far away from the game.
Gonzalez is arguably the most notable Giants prospect selected to the DSL All-Star game. He is hitting .246/.369/.356 (102 wRC+) with one home run, 10 RBI, and 33 runs in 141 plate appearances. He also has 20 steals in 22 opportunities.
Yulian Barreto has put up an .872 OPS with one home run, 20 RBI, and 26 runs in 141 plate appearances. He has recorded more walks (25) than strikeouts (18). The 17-year-old has seen time all over the infield, but he has spent the majority of his playing time at second base.
Alberto Laroche might be a name to follow in the Giants system. The righty pitcher has a 1.35 ERA with 24 strikeouts and four walks in 26.2 frames in his second turn through the DSL.
