MLB Pipeline picked one prospect from each organization whose stock improved the most in 2025. For the SF Giants, 2024 international free agent Argenis Cayama got the nod.
2024 IFA signing picked as SF Giants prospect whose stock improved the most in 2025
There were quite a few Giants prospects who could have been considered for this. Keyner Martinez, Luis De La Torre, and Carlos Gutierrez are some of the names that come to mind.
Martinez's 2025 campaign was similarly impressive to Cayama's season. He pitched to a 2.21 ERA with 97 strikeouts and 21 walks in 69.1 frames split between two levels. Martinez and Cayama anchored the Arizona Complex League (ACL) Giants' rotation before finishing the year with San Jose.
De La Torre began the season in the ACL, but saw just a few more appearances with San Jose than Martinez and Cayama. He tallied a 2.78 ERA with 109 strikeouts and 27 walks in 74.1 innings split across two affiliates.
Lastly, Gutierrez was on a tear at the plate for San Jose before finishing the season on the injured list. He slashed .351/.445/.452 (150 wRC+) with two home runs, 30 RBI, and 60 runs in 293 plate appearances. This includes 26 steals in 29 chances.
With all that being said, Aregnis Cayama, along with Martinez, catapulted up the Giants' prospect rankings. MLB Pipeline currently has him ranked as the No. 9 prospect.
The Giants originally signed him for $147,500 out of Venezuela during the 2024 international free agency cycle. That class was headlined by Jhonny Level and Yoendry Sanchez. Since then, Level has emerged as one of the Giants' top prospects.
Cayama put up a 2.59 ERA in 10 outings for the Dominican Summer League in 2024. He followed that up with a 2.25 ERA in 12 starts for the ACL Giants last summer. The young pitching prospect also made six appearances for San Jose late in the year.
On the mound, Cayama features a pair of fastballs that sit in the mid 90's. He has good command of his fastball, and can locate the four-seamer and sinker where they need to be placed. He mixes in a low-80's gyro slider that has some promise, with a changeup that is a work in progress. Despite being just 19 years of age, he has an advanced feel for pitching.
There is a good chance that Cayama begins next season with San Jose. That should be an exciting pitching staff to follow.
