Later today, the San Francisco 49ers will likely be selecting a quarterback with the third overall pick in the NFL draft and that pick already has stirred plenty of debate. So much so that a current SF Giants reliever and a former Giants reliever have jumped into the debate.

The Niners quarterback situation is one that has caused a lot of conversation and discourse. The first part of the debate is whether the Niners need to move on from current quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

The next part of the discussion is who the Niners should take in the first round of the NFL draft. This is where Caleb Barager and Sergio Romo have chimed in. Baragar has strong opinions about one prospective target and he is willing to stake his fan card on it:

Of course, the left-handed hurler’s opinion is based on the eye test as he did not come away impressed with University of Alabama quarterback Mac Jones’ workout:

It is clear who Baragar wants the Niners to avoid. And, on Thursday morning, former SF Giants reliever and three-time World Series champion Sergio Romo jumped into the discussion as well. Unlike Baragar, Romo offers his take on who he wants the Niners to select:

If you are on Twitter, Justin Fields has seemingly been the favorite of those who follow football prospects closely. The Ohio State University quarterback might not even be available when the Niners are on the clock, but he has a fan in Sergio Romo if he is available.

The NFL draft starts at 5:00 PM (Pacific time) on Thursday, April 29, 2021. The means that the Niners should have their selection within the first hour of the draft. Up until now, the draft from the perspective of who the Niners should take has created a lot of strong opinions and debate on social media. The debate likely does not end tonight, but the Niners should have clarity at quarterback by the end of today.
