The San Francisco Giants have been awfully quiet this offseason. The biggest additions they have made were through the Rule 5 Draft. However, that could change this week.
The Giants claimed outfielder Mike Gerber from the Detroit Tigers last week. They also selected Drew Ferguson and Travis Bergen in the Rule 5 Draft.
While that is enough excitement to last a lifetime, the Giants still have some work to do. It is getting late in the offseason, and the Giants still have holes to fill in the outfield and rotation. Perhaps, a longer offseason is the new norm.
With that being said, expect the Giants rumors and activity to pick up this week. The first order of business is to meet with Japanese hurler Yusei Kikuchi.
According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, Kikuchi is expected to meet with prospective teams this week. The Giants have done their homework on Kikuchi. Additionally, Kikuchi is rumored to prefer a team on the west coast, which is where the Giants play.
As a result, it seems the Giants will likely be meeting with Kikuchi. Farhan Zaidi is said to have spoken with agent Scott Boras as recently as last week regarding Kikuchi and other clients. Maybe Boras wanted some fantasy football advice.

Whether they get the rose from Kikuchi, that remains to be seen. However, the Giants have to like their chances.
Beyond this, the Giants might be poised to make a move this week as well. The Giants appear to be interested in outfielder Kevin Pillar. In addition to the rumored interest in Pillar, Farhan Zaidi believes he may have a couple of deals in place this week.
The winter meetings may have been slow, but that does not mean they were unproductive. It is possible, and likely, Zaidi built momentum on trade proposals and free agent signings since the winter meetings began.
With so many high-priced free agents still on the market, this could be another offseason of patience. The Giants have several holes to fill on the roster, and the hope is Zaidi begins filling those holes before the holidays.
The evidence for potential roster moves might be flimsy at the moment, but it seems like the Giants have been connected to more players in recent days. At some point, they are bound to make an addition. Let’s hope it comes before the next ice age.
The Giants continue to do their homework. Both Bruce Bochy and Zaidi observed Troy Tulowitzki’s recent workouts. The fit seems odd, but perhaps they were just “kicking the tires” in a slow week.
