Did Yusmeiro Petit Get Your Attention?

What’s more rare than a perfect game? The ALMOST perfect game. There are only 23 perfect and only 12 games in which perfect games were broken up in the ninth inning. So tonight Yusmeiro Petit pitched one of the 35 best games in major league baseball history against his old team the Arizona Diamondbacks, leading the Giants to a 3-0 victory.

I was at the ballpark tonight with Alex Maffei  another Senior Staff Writer at Around the Foghorn. I went to get some beer in the 6th inning and RAN back to the seats when I realized:

  • I NEVER get up when the other team is batting. NEVER. I learned my lesson, they always hit when I do.
  • There was a big zero under hits I somehow wasn’t paying attention to. And yeah… Petit didn’t walk anyone.
  • My baseball superstitions are fake.

There were so many random conversations over the course of the night, “It’s funny, no one seems to care when Petit pitches.” Then frantically looking to see how many pitches he’s thrown in the top of the 8th inning. Not many.

Petit only at 84 pitches at the top of the 8th inning on 9/7/13.

Or “Hey look at Pence, I bet he’s going to hit one out of here.” Then THIS.

Alex is here displaying the expression on the faces of everyone in the 9th inning scared to death with 2 outs and a 3-2 count…

Will the Giants keep Petit next year? Ironic that on July 28, 2013 the Giants DFA’ed Petit to clear a roster spot for Guillermo Moscoso? Baseball is so unpredictable, that’s why we love it so much.

Hunter Pence, you were amazing tonight.  You’d better be a Giant next year.

Angel is back!! The last time I took an outfield bump picture with him in it at AT&T was in May. Welcome home!
