Player of the Day: Again coming from the Northwest League, today’s top performer goes to RHP Chase Johnson.  The San Francisco Giants 2013 3rd round pick, Johnson went 5 innings for Short Season A Salem-Keizer giving up 0ER with only 2 hits, 7K, and 1BB.  This marks the 4th time Johnson has given up 0ER in 7 starts as a professional.  He has never given up more than 2ER in any of his outings, and lowered his ERA to 1.44 on the season.  Rehabbing Tony Abreu came in a close second going 3-4 with a double and 2RBI, but this one goes to the youngster.

Recap: (W 7-4) Tony Abreu went 3-4 with a double and 2RBI in another rehab start with Fresno, as the Grizzlies defeated Omaha. Gary Brown collected a couple of doubles, and Chris Dominguez knocked in a pair of runs. Former Giants bullpen arms George Kontos and Jean Machi gave up a run each and Heath Hembree extended his franchise record for saves, recording his 27th of the season.

Low A Augusta GreenJackets

Recap: (W 2-0) Augusta scored in the bottom of the 7th on a double by Charles Jones that knocked in Mitchell Delfino, and again in the bottom of the 8th on a single by Trevor Brown that scored Shawn Payne.  Not much scoring in this one, but a fine pitcher’s duel between  Greenville and Augusta.  Martin Agosta, the Giants #7 prospect, went 3 innings of no-hit ball before succumbing to a predetermined 50 pitch limit.  Agosta was making his 1st start since July 21st – out due to a recurring blister problem.  With the win, Augusta takes over 1st place in the Southern Division of the South Atlantic League.

At the Plate: Charles Jones 2-3, 2B, RBI

On the Mound: Martin Agosta 1.96 ERA, 3IP, 0 hits, BB, 4K (on a 50 pitch limit)
