#SFGiants Apologize to Orioles Adam Jones
Update: Daniel Brown of the Mercury News is claiming that longtime Giants fan Alexander Poulides has admitted to throwing the banana as out frustration and not racism.

Poulides had this to say to Brown:
“I’m embarrassed and shocked by the outcome,” the Northern California resident said. “In hindsight, I wish I didn’t do it and I apologize. I’m very sorry.”
Original: In a completely classless move, someone in the bleachers at AT&T Park threw a banana at Baltimore Orioles CF Adam Jones. I say someone and not “fan” because I don’t believe a true Giants fan would do something like that. After the game Sunday afternoon, Jones took to Twitter to call out the person.

For the most part, Giants fans were outraged by the incident. It’s not something that should ever happen at AT&T Park. The Giants Organization agrees as well, issuing a statement about the incident.
“We were extremely disappointed to learn about the incident involving Adam Jones at AT&T Park yesterday. The Giants have a zero tolerance policy against this type of behavior, which results in immediate ejection from the ballpark. While we have been investigating the matter since we learned of the situation, unfortunately we have been unable to identify the person responsible. We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to Adam and the entire Orioles organization for this unfortunate incident. The inappropriate actions of this individual in no way reflect the values of our organization and our fans.” via CBS Sports
While I can say I’m somewhat surprised something like this happened, I’m not in shock. I mean, it’s the bleacher seats. It’s where all the drunk people who come to the park sit (not saying this person was drunk). I had the pleasure of sitting out there last week for the first time in a long time. We sat right in front of a group of drunk guys who entertained the crowed by heckling the LF by chanting the every popular “What’s a matter with Davis? He’s a bum!” It didn’t get too much worse than that, and there certainly weren’t things flying on the field, or racist remarks. It’s what you expect in the bleachers.
However, while the bleachers may be a bit more rowdy than the other seats, throwing things on the field and being racist, is simply not okay. Ever. I’m pretty sure if I was there, I would have reported them. At least, I would hope that I would have. This season has been sad in a number of ways, but the most disheartening thing has not been the play of the players. It’s been the play of the people attending games. There have been multiple times where “fans” (used loosely) have reached over the wall and interfered with a ball in play. Between that, and this latest incident, I will flatly say this crap needs to STOP!
So, I encourage all true Giants and baseball fans, to let the people around you know the rules. When someone is out of line, leading over the walls, throwing stuff on the field, being offensive, report them or put a stop to it. Let’s keep AT&T Park one the best parks in baseball. It’s a slippery slope out there.
Does Poulides admission make it better, or should he be banned from the park for rest of the season?
