Tuesday’s Lineups after 16 inning marathon on Monday made today totally unproductive

In addition to being all out of whack today, the Giants made a slew of roster moves, including putting Hector Sanchez on the 15-Day DL with a right shoulder strain, designated Cole Gillespie for assignment, and added Kensuke Tanaka and Mike Kickham to the 25-man roster, ending the three catcher reign of terror. Baggs was nice enough to field my question, although never really answering it on the matter. I’m sure he gets the same questions over and over again, and that’s one of them. Mets lineup:

Dillon Gee has an ERA and FIP in the four’s and the ERA is 6.02 on the road, against a guy like Barry Zito who has a 1.98 ERA at home, that has to be a good thing, right? Gosh I hope it’s right. Here’s what the Giants are bringing out there, Brandon Belt moves down to sixth, and newcomer Tanaka goes into the two-spot.

It’s hard to complain about the lineup when nobody’s hitting. Actually that’s not true, the only guy that’s hitting is resting today, since Buster Posey caught sixteen innings last night. I think that deserves a day off. It’s July 9th.

For today’s pitcher analysis provided by Brooks Baseball we’re going to look at pitch usage by Gee and Zito. Gee uses five pitches, uses a fastball-sinker-changeup combo to LHH and a fastball-sinker-slider menu for righties for the most part. You see that when the AB begins and when the batter’s ahead, he stays pretty true to those overall tendencies. He’ll use that fourth and fifth pitch a lot more in situations where he’s ahead and with two strikes.

We know Zito has a bunch of pitches he likes to use as well, with the slider being used more often than the fastball for the most part. Fastball-slider-curve to lefties and slider-fastball and any other pitch to righties. For some reason, what Zito does at home is a heck of a lot better than on the road. Will make for interesting discussion should this continue through the rest of the 2013 season.

I’m probably going to miss the first third of this game at least, so I hope when I come home the Giants will be winning 10-0 and I can be happy about today.

Apparently the Giants locker room smells like incense. Even though I spent a year in Japan and I have Japanese blood in me, I have no idea if this is related to Tanaka in any way. It actually wouldn’t surprise me if this were a Hunter Pence thing.

Game starts at 7:15PM PST.
