Giants Baseball: Torture

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Maybe that guy in the picture could help out the offense?!

:\

I’m not sure you’d classify this with the Manny Ramirez beheading of Sergio Romo earlier this year. And I might not put it in the Mets series category. But it’s knocking on the door, trying to climb through the open window, that’s for sure.

If you watched the game last night, no need to watch this afternoon’s if you’re still waiting to on your DVR. It’s a near exact replica. Barry Zito threw a wonderful game yesterday and gave up a solo homer in the bottom of the 8th that resulted in a loss. Matt Cain was just as good today and the same result, though, this was a two-run dinger off the bat of Aaron Hill. A third run was added later in the inning (charged to Cain but Casilla’s doing really) but the wind was already out of the Giants sails by that time. Zito nor Cain deserved the result they were given.

The Giants coming into this series were the second worst team in the National League with runners in scoring position, worst with runners in scoring position with two-out. Considering they’ve scored two runs in eighteen innings – they haven’t helped themselves.

The offense didn’t look good today or yesterday at any stage, but for the most part as I touched on in a previous post, the Giants have done well (average wise) all season as they’re third in the league. But the continued struggles with runners in scoring position is downright horrific. I’d like to say I can explain it, but, I can’t. It’s awful. And it just seems to get worse and worse every game.

Shawn Marcum goes for the Jays tomorrow, a tough task for the Giants as Marcum comes into the game with a 3.31 ERA.

The Giants have the Houston Astros starting Tuesday (in Houston), a team who they’re 6-0 against this year. Law of averages combined with the Stro’s offense starting to play a bit better says the Giants are going to need to be content with at best a .500 road trip before they come home for the Dodgers and Red Sox. It’s going to be a tough week for the G-Men if they don’t get their offense back into some gear. Anything. Please.
