The SF Giants were sellers at the trade deadline, but if they were buyers they would have been a perfect fit for both starting pitcher Joe Ryan and outfielder Steven Kwan. They can still make a run at both players in the offseason.

It came as a bit of a surprise that neither Ryan nor Kwan was dealt at the deadline. Both the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians were in a position where they could sell, but both clubs opted to keep Ryan and Kwan.

SF Giants have perfect offseason trade targets in Kwan and Ryan

It was rumored that a few NL West rivals were planning to make a run at Kwan and apparently the Boston Red Sox made a strong offer for Ryan. Nonetheless, they both ended up staying put.

However, looking ahead to the offseason, both players are seen as some of the top trade candidates out there. With how well both are playing this year and the fact that both earned All-Star nods this season, that should come as no surprise.

Ryan has been a phenomenal starter for Minnesota this season. In 23 games he has a 10-5 record with a 2.79 ERA in 132 and 1/3 innings pitched. He has 146 strikeouts compared to just 26 walks and has a 0.92 WHIP on the year.

For a Giants team that can likely only count on Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, and Landen Roupp being in the rotation to start next season, adding Ryan to the mix would make the team's rotation very formidable. Plus, the fact that he is a San Francisco native only makes him an even more perfect fit.

Kwan has been great for Cleveland as well. He is slashing .281/.342/.394 with nine home runs and 39 runs batted in. The Los Gatos native has won three straight Gold Gloves and would be a perfect upgrade over Mike Yastrzemski, who was recently traded to the Royals, in right field.

The two players would fill pressing needs on the team and just so happen to be Bay Area natives. It sounds almost too good to be true.

The Giants would have to surrender quite a bit to get either player. Yet, we know San Francisco has struggled to land free agents in the past so the trade route could be their best best to try and upgrade the team.

The offseason is still far away, but it is hard not to start dreaming about Joe Ryan in San Francisco's rotation and Steven Kwan in the lineup.
