The SF Giants aren’t all that fun to watch in the present so it may be time to start thinking about the future. It’s obviously too early to fully assess how the guys drafted by the Giants in the 2025 MLB Draft will turn out, but we can take a look at two players who have been pleasant surprises so far and two who have disappointed.

2 SF Giants draft picks from 2025 draft who are on fire

Rob Barajas Jr.

Drafted in the 11th round last year out of Saddleback Community College, Rod Barajas Jr. is the son of Rod Barajas who Giants fans may remember from his playing days since he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2010 to 2011 and was the manager of the San Diego Padres in 2019.

His son is currently tearing the cover off the ball in Single-A for the San Jose Giants. He's currently hitting .305/.362/.416 with four home runs and 19 runs batted in.

The 21-year-old catcher has been impressive thus far so he could be a guy to keep an eye on as he progresses through the minors.

Cameron Maldonado

The Giants selected outfielder Cameron Maldonado in the 7th round out of Northeastern University. He's hitting .313/.398/.594 with seven homers and 23 runs batted in for the San Jose Giants.

He’s not super highly touted and he didn’t do much with San Jose last year but he hit .351/.467/.631 with 15 home runs and 59 runs batted in during his final year at Northeastern so he’s got potential.

2 SF Giants picks from 2025 off to a cold start

Trevor Cohen

San Francisco took outfielder Trevor Cohen in the 3rd round out of Rutgers University. He hit .327/.428/.402 in San Jose last year and began 2026 in High-A with the Eugene Emeralds but he’s hitting .221/.349/.346 with no home runs and five runs batted in.

That OBP is impressive and he has more walks than strikeouts which is impressive but the Giants would certainly like him to get more hits. He’s the No. 9 ranked prospect in the organization and is touted for his contact skills so hopefully he can raise that batting average over the course of the season.

Lorenzo Meola

Shortstop Lorenzo Meola was drafted in the fourth round out of Stetson University. He his .273/.314/.470 in San Jose last year and so far this season in San Jose he’s hitting .204/.313/.269 with no homers and nine runs batted in.

He’s the No. 19 prospect in the organization and is known more for his skills as a fielder but he’s going to need to start hitting if he wants to progress.

The current big league team may not be doing great, but maybe in a few years some of these players can be contributors in the majors.
