While the offseason is still young, the San Francisco Giants have once again struggled to get the top free agent talent to sign. The Giants made basically the same offer to Shohei Ohtani that the Dodgers did and he ended up in LA. The Giants are being mentioned less and less in the Yoshinobu Yamamoto race. Sure, they signed Jung Hoo Lee which is a start, but Lee isn't exactly the impact player that the Giants were looking to add this offseason.

One reason that has been floated quite a bit lately is that the city of San Francisco itself has a reputation that is deterring free agents from locating there. Buster Posey has mentioned it as a narrative that has caused problems, but Rowdy Tellez is the one that came out swinging and called San Francisco a "bad city" that is "hardly safe".

Well, Logan Webb wasn't having any of that as he smacked down Tellez's characterization of the San Francisco area.

Logan Webb dismissed Rowdy Tellez and his comments about San Francisco

Upon hearing Tellez's comments, Webb was quick to point out that there seems to be a lot of people with strong opinions about San Francisco that have never actually played there. He also pointed out that while San Francisco has it's issues, they are no different than the issues that most major cities have to deal with. Again, all solid points.

It is a shame that it has come to this, but it is also refreshing to see Webb stand up and defend the city that he has grown up around and where he has played his entire professional baseball career. There are a lot of people that have taken cheap shots at San Francisco and not nearly enough people rising up to defend it.

Will Webb's comments make a difference? They very well could. While it is doubtful that top free agents are monitoring a Webb vs. Tellez feud with baited breath, but they could see Webb taking a stand here and possibly give the guy a call when considering the Giants to see his take on what the city offers. The Giants need a salesman like that right now.

I started my career writing about baseball covering the Atlanta Braves for SB Nation's Talking Chop back in 2015 which has since been renamed Battery Power. After years of writing for those fine folks, I made the decision to take over as Site Expert at House That Hank Built before becoming a full-time MLB Staff Writer for FanSided in 2023. Along the way, I have been a guest on multiple ESPN radio affiliates as well as 680 The Fan and 92.9 The Game to discuss Braves baseball and especially Braves prospects and was a long-time host on the Battery Power podcast. These days, I continue to write about the Braves as well as covering the Astros, Padres, and Angels with particular expertise with minor league coverage, the MLB Draft, and bashing Anthony Rendon when possible. When I am not writing about or talking about baseball (which is seldom), I am an avid baseball card collector (Maddux and Soroka being my primary personal collections) and I also collect shark teeth. All other sports are mostly dead to me as my Bills have broken my heart too many times.
