For me, the biggest surprise early on has to be Kevin Gausman.

We did not know what to expect from him after he pitched really poorly as a starter last season, but so far he has been masterful on the mound.

He’s only pitched four innings, but he has been impressive. It only took him fourteen pitches to record six outs in his start against the San Diego Padres, and that was against some of the best hitters on their roster. He struck out both Manny Machado and Wil Myers.

He has yet to surrender a hit and has only given up one walk so far. It’s obviously still very early, but Gausman has come into spring training in great form. Let’s hope that translates into regular season success.
