Who’s at second?

Speaking of Mauricio Dubon, in addition to center field, there is a good chance that we will see a lot of him at second base as well in 2020.

While he was the presumptive favorite for the second base job for most of the offseason, the recent additions of Yolmer Sanchez and Wilmer Flores have shown that the Giants could view Dubon in a different role.

There is an interesting dynamic with Sanchez, Dubon, and Flores. Sanchez is a former Gold Glove winner who is severely lacking offensively. On the other hand, Flores is the best hitter of the three as evidenced by his evisceration of the Giants last season as a member of the Diamondbacks. All told, he hit .317/.361/.487 in 265 at-bats.

Then you have Dubon who is a happy medium between the two. He proved last season that he can make some dazzling plays at second and is also handy with a bat.

At the very least, the Giants have options at second base. With the ability to move both Dubon and Flores around the diamond, not to mention Donovan Solano’s ability to play second, the team will probably cycle through a lot of different second basemen in 2020 to see what works.
