He’s a great athlete

Without question, Dubon proved last year that he is a great athlete. His web gems at second base and his experience as a shortstop prove that he can handle some of the most demanding positions on the diamond.

His versatility as a fielder make him a good fit in Zaidi’s vision for a team. With the modern preference for as much versatility as possible, it stands to reason that the Giants would try to stretch Dubon for all that he’s worth in the field.

That doesn’t mean he will be a Gold Glove caliber fielder at every position, but I do think it means that he could be effective in the middle infield as well as the outfield.

Plus, in a rebuilding year, it does not hurt to experiment and see just how versatile your roster really is. The 2020 season could be a great year to try Dubon out and see if he is capable of roaming the outfield.
