Giants No. 3 starter: RHP Kevin Gausman

The 2019 season was a tough one for Kevin Gausman.

He made 16 starts with the Atlanta Braves and recorded a 6.19 ERA before he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds where he was used as a reliever in all but one appearance.

His numbers actually improved in a relief role, with a 4.03 ERA in 15 appearances following the trade.

That said, the Giants will almost certainly use him as a starter. The question is whether he can improve upon his dismal stats as a starter from last year.

He is just a year removed from posting a 3.92 ERA in 31 starts with the Baltimore Orioles and Braves, so there’s plenty of reason for optimism.

Gausman is still only 29 years old, so he has time to turn things around and rebound from his rough 2019. Given the state of the rotation, chances are he will be given every opportunity to find his footing again in 2020.
