More closer options
With Will Smith gone, you might have expected Zaidi to make at least a few significant moves to address the bullpen this offseason. But as of yet, no dice.
That said, there are still some solid options out there.
Cody Allen makes sense coming off a rough 2019. He will come at a discounted price, but also brings with him a ton of experience in the closer’s role. He recorded 147 saves with the Cleveland Indians from 2014 to 2018.
Another experienced closer option would be Greg Holland. He lost the job with the Arizona Diamondbacks last season, but could still be somewhat effective in the role if he gets things under control. If not, he could still work as a middle or late-inning reliever.
If the Giants feel comfortable enough with Tony Watson being the closer, then so be it. But even when a team is not expected to contend, I think having a good closer makes them at least a little more watchable, so it may be wise to add a few arms that would bolster the relief corps.
