Giants: Position-by-position list of available MLB free agents, potential fits

Notable Free-Agent Second Basemen
- Jonathan Schoop
- Starlin Castro
- Howie Kendrick
- Wilmer Flores
- Brian Dozier
- Jason Kipnis
- Ben Zobrist
- Scooter Gennett
Rookie Mauricio Dubon showed plenty of potential down the stretch, and he looks to have an inside track on the starting second base job in 2020. He’ll be backed up by Donovan Solano, who hit .330 as one of the biggest surprises of 2019.
However, it’s not out of the realm of possibility to think that Dubon could be overmatched and Solano could regress considerably, so adding more depth up the middle seems wise.
Jonathan Schoop would add some welcome power to the lineup.
Notable Free-Agent Shortstops
- Didi Gregorius
- Jose Iglesias
- Adeiny Hechavarria
- Jordy Mercer
Even if the new manager decides it’s time to move Brandon Crawford into a part-time role, Dubon would likely get the first crack at replacing him on the other side of second base.
It’s unlikely any of these guys will be wearing the orange and black.
Notable Free-Agent Utility Infielders
- Brock Holt
- Eric Sogard
- Asdrubal Cabrera
- Brad Miller
- Hernan Perez
- Chris Owings
This is where the Giants might look to pounce. Anyone from the group of Brock Holt, Eric Sogard, Asdrubal Cabrera and Brad Miller would be a great pickup to fill a super-utility role, with the ability to step into a regular gig if the opportunity presents itself.
Again, after posting a .409 BABIP, Solano looks like a prime regression candidate.
