After undergoing Tommy John surgery at the beginning of September, there’s a good chance that Pablo Sandoval will miss the entire first half of next season, and perhaps more.

While someone could be willing to take a chance on him returning to health in the second half by signing him to a contract this winter, it’s more likely that he will get healthy and then hold a showcase, before signing with a contender for the stretch run next summer.

After leading the majors with 18 pinch hits, Sandoval has proven his worth as a bench piece, and he also provides a terrific clubhouse presence with an abundance of postseason experience.

If he wants to keep playing, there will be a market once he’s healthy.
