3. Art Fletcher (1909-20), New York Giants

Stats: 100 OPS+, .275/.318/.356, 1,311 H, 21 HR, 585 RBI, 602 R
WAR: 42.2 rWAR/41.1 fWAR
Accolades: N/A
WS Titles: 0

In terms of WAR total and complete body of work, there’s a fairly large gap between the top three guys on this list and everyone else.

While No. 1 and No. 2 are both in the Hall of Fame, Art Fletcher was simply a quiet contributor for 12 seasons, providing most of his value with his glove.

How good was he defensively?

Despite hitting just .260/.312/.343 during the 1917 season, he still posted a career-high 7.4 WAR thanks to his glovework.

He was eventually traded to the Philadelphia Phillies midway through the 1920 season in exchange for the No. 6 player on this list, Dave Bancroft.
