26. RHP Camilo Doval

Age: 22
Current Level: High-A
Acquired: IFA (2015)
Future Value: 35+

Even at 22 years old, Doval requires a lot of projection.

However, like Melvin Adon or Ray Black, it’s hard to ignore power stuff. At his best, Doval has flashed closer upside. He has a high 90s fastball with strong cut that has been up to 2700 RPM. He also works from a funky three-quarters delivery, making his pitches difficult to pick up, especially for right-handed hitters.

However, Doval still lacks a solid second pitch. He has a slider that could become an average pitch, but it requires a level of control he just doesn’t have. His mechanics, while adding to his nastiness, also make it difficult to repeat his delivery and locate.

All of this has been on full display in the California League, where Doval has had stretches where he looks like a budding bullpen ace and others where he looks like a non-prospect. Doval is the kind of prospect who will be frustrating until everything clicks, if it ever does (see: Kyle Crick).
