San Francisco Giants need confidence and rhythm facing the Dodgers

San Francisco Giants vs. LA Dodgers – Game 3
Holland (0-1, 6.75 ERA, 1.50 ERA) vs. Stripling (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.75 WHIP)
Although Derek Holland was serviceable on Friday night, he wasn’t great. He struggled in the second inning, giving up a walk, double and a single to give the Padres a 2-0 lead. Lest we forget, his first start in 2018 wasn’t great either, and it was against the Dodgers.

Holland had quite a bit of experience against the Dodgers at their home last season with varied success. His last start at Dodger Stadium he went 4 2/3 shutout innings, but he was pulled for pitch count and the Giants dropped that game 4-3.
Hernandez is a lifetime 4-for-7 against Holland with two doubles and a home run, so Derek will definitely need to keep eyes on him. The rest of the lineup didn’t present too much of a threat to him last season.
Dazzling in his first start of the season, Ross Stripling went 5 1/3 innings and striking out five, although the Dodgers ended up losing 5-4 thanks to their lackluster bullpen.
In their last appearance at Dodger Stadium against Stripling, the Giants got two runs on four hits including a Pablo Sandoval home run. Sandoval is 2-for-5 lifetime against Stripling, and both Joe Panik and Gerardo Parra are 4-for-10 against him with a couple of extra base hits apiece.
Buster Posey is no slouch against the righty either, as he is 4-for-8 with two doubles. Of course, we all remember Stripling as the pitcher who opposed Matt Moore in his spoiled no-hitter at Dodger Stadium. Stripling has come a long way since then.
