Eleven San Francisco Giants Staying in Organization

4. Marco Luciano – It might seem odd to include a 16 year old prospect this high on the list, but when you are talking about players to keep, sometimes, it’s the ones that will flourish years down the line.
Luciano is a power hitting shortstop, who was ranked second among all international prospects when the Giants signed him in July.
Last season, San Francisco was not allowed to spend big in the international market after doing so the year before to sign Lucius Fox. The Giants included Fox in the Matt Duffy trade to Tampa Bay that brought Matt Moore over, so Luciano is now far and away the best international prospect in the organization.
While the chances of him contributing are slim in the next few seasons, we have also seen the league go much younger in recent years. The likely rookie of the year in the National League will be a 19 year old and more and more teams are deciding to bring up their young talent earlier.
Might Luciano be the a future 19 year old phenom in the big leagues? Only time will tell. In the meantime, the Giants seem to have a perfect addition to their retooling of the farm system.
Welcome to the #SFGiants Family, Marco Luciano.
