Moment 5: 2011 Willie Mac Award Winner

Here comes a guy who is considered a journeyman who has been through so many negatives while playing this game. It took him awhile to return to the team that drafted him, but returning to the Giants is the best thing that could have happened. Vogelsong came up after Barry Zito suffered a foot injury and he blossomed. He had a 2.71 ERA to go along with a 13-7 record in 28 starts on the year.

Moment Number 4: 2011 All-Star Selection

This was huge moment for Vogelsong and his family. Just making it back to a big league mound was a big deal but when he was selected to the all-star game? I can’t even imagine what was going through his mind. This is a guy that had to leave overseas to prove that he had what it takes to pitch in the big leagues. He did not pitch in the game but just to be able to hear his named called during pre-game introductions had to have been enough for him. Vogelsong was one of those feel good stories and at this time neither the Giants or anyone for that matter, knew just how Valuable he was to this franchise. This was just the beginning.
